Year 8 revision

Hi Year 8

Here is some revision help for chapters 1-4.

Firstly click here for a copy of the level 5 to 6 descriptors like you have used in lesson.

You need to revise:

Arithmetic with integers Order decimals
Add, subtract, multiply and divide integers
Order, add, subtract, multiply and divide negative numbers
Factors and primes Use multiples, factors, common factors, highest common factors, lowest common multiples and primes
Prime factor decomposition Use a factor tree to find the product of primes, e.g. 8000 = 26 × 53
LCM and HCF Use multiples, factors, common factors, highest common factors, lowest common multiples and primes
Square roots and cube roots Use squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots.
Metric measure Choose and use units of measurement to measure, estimate, calculate and solve problems in a range of contexts
Imperial measure Know rough metric equivalents of imperial measures in common use, such as miles, pounds (lb) and pints
Area of a rectangle and a triangle be able to find the area of a rectangle, & triangle.
Area of a parallelogram and trapezium be able to find the area of parallelogram and trapezium
Calculate areas of compound shapes
Two or more events use diagrams and tables to record in a systematic way all possible mutually exclusive outcomes for single events and for two successive events
Use tree diagrams and sample space diagrams
Tree diagrams use diagrams and tables to record in a systematic way all possible mutually exclusive outcomes for single events and for two successive events
Experimental probability Compare estimated experimental probabilities with theoretical probabilities, recognising that:
– if an experiment is repeated the outcome may, and usually will, be different
Comparing experimental and theoretical probability – increasing the number of times an experiment is repeated generally leads to better estimates of probability
Fractions and decimals Order decimals, and know how to convert between fractions and decimals to order fractions
Adding and subtracting fractions Add and subtract fractions by writing them with a common denominator
Multiplying and dividing fractions Multiply and divide fractions
Percentage problems Calculate percentages and find the outcome of a given percentage increase or decrease
Fractions, decimals and percentages Order fractions by writing them with a common denominator or by converting them to decimals
Express one given number as a percentage of another

Use your books, revision sheets, FROG and the blog to help guide your revision.  Don't forget to comment to ask for any tutorials/videos/worksheets to be put up to help you.  If you find something helpful on the internet why don't you comment to let us know so everyone can be helped by it?
